What's The Funk?
About RIAfunkAbout UsRIA: Who we are... RIA was originally founded as an "air band" at the end of the year 2000, followed by the founding of our official website, RIAfunk in 2001. The founding of the website was followed by the release of our first album, S'Vine, which was produced and distributed locally among highschool students in Miami, FL. Our second official album, F*ck Raboid was released in 2003 and distributed digitally through this website. Following the release of F*ck Raboid, we began to experiment with independent short films, beginning with the production of Ninja Gaiden: The Movie, which is based on the classic NES video game of the same title. The release of Ninja Gaiden: The Movie saw our original group of 5 increase with the addition of new talented members. From 2003 to 2005, thanks to the addition of these new members, we were able to simultaneously produce independent music as well as independent short films. Some of our most notable works from this period are included on the Bill Kamal DVD compilation. The Bill Kamal DVD, like S'Vine, was sold and distributed locally among college students in Miami, FL. Other notable works include Army of Marxists, The REAL Movie of Super Eurobeat, How to pick a Lock with a Paperclip and Got Rice Part V (MIA Pride). In addition to music and short films, we have also produced a number of short stories depicting the adventures of the RIA members fighting for their fictional homeland, "RIAopia". The most notable of these being the Carnevil series and The War Against Middle-Earth. Elements from these stories as well as past RIA music and movies were used as inspiration for the fantasy world depicted in the RIA short film Climbing Arc, which was released in the beginning of 2006. The release of Climbing Arc was followed by the release of the Climbing Arc O.S.T. soundtrack, as well as NARC, our second video game inspired short film. From 2007 to 2008, we temporarily halted production of new RIA material as our core members focused on completing their degrees in college and preparing for their careers in the real world. In 2009, we decided to pick up where we left off, and began to move in a new direction of transitioning from amateur to professional quality creative work. This website now serves as our virtual studio, as well as a development blog and portfolio of past and future RIA projects.
And if you're even more curious then check out: http://www.riafunk.com/Classic2nd/. It was our second home and the place where all of our craziest ideas were born before we made the jump to where we are now! You can visit our old forum @ http://archive.riafunk.com/. It was active from 2004 all the way into 2009. Many of RIA's major developments occurred on this board, instead of the main site. Things like the Bill Kamal DVD updates which were never mentioned on the main site were fully covered on the message boards.
