What's The Funk?

Despite the lack of updates recently, beta development of the site has continued. Right now most of the site development issues have been accounted for. This post is also meant for testing how well our RSS feed is working. There's still some organization that needs to be done, but the progress of the beta is slowly moving towards conclusion.

I am proud to announce that the first phase of the beta is now complete. The second (and last) phase of the beta starts today, but once again my schedule has become very busy, so I'll be posting more details once my schedule opens up again.

The site went down and it went back up since my last update. I was able to implement everything a lot smoother than expected. The songs and movies should be working again like usual. The last few months allowed me to get pretty far with this site, but my schedule has gotten pretty busy lately so I'm hoping to wrap up this beta stuff as soon as my schedule opens up again. Only got a solid week or so of work left to be done thankfully. Also, this month someone found the site by searching for "images of bad hip replacements". I hope that they found what they were looking for.

Unfortunately there is nobody in the RIA Army named Major Breakage, but I'm sure if there was it would strike fear into the hearts of all of our enemies, especially the Glass People. The title of this post refers to the current state of the RIA site beta test. We are currently about 50% done beta testing this site, however, I realized that another huge server side change needs to be made, which means that most every link will be broken again as I implement this change. This should be the last major server side change for awhile I'm hoping.
Depending on my schedule, expect this site to go down any day this week. Sorry again about the inconvenience.

Most of the song links should be working again now. I'm still updating different things as necessary, but they are downloadable again for the most part.
This site is still in testing phase, so expect more random things to break as I continue to work on it.
Right now the board and all of the site media are my biggest focus. Along with design tests and changes.
Thankfully, there isn't that much that's left to be done. Once this is all done expect some more interesting updates. Thanks for your patience.
Back to work.

As mentioned in my previous posts, I'm breaking things and un-breaking them as I fix the site. I have finally broken something that merits being mentioned on The Funk. Most of the song links are broken right now. And that's because I am currently re-tagging and re-organizing the tracks into proper albums for distribution. Up until now, most of the mp3's were copies from the old geocities site, so most of them had tags with links to the geocities website, which does not exist anymore.
Everything should be back up and working again within the new few days. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Updating the board. Finally figured out how I'm going manage the Wiki too.
Things are starting to come together, albeit slowly. Also, beware that things are still prone to breakiness as I am still testing things.
That's all for now. Still need to keep working on "things".
Until next time.

Continuing with updates and overall site maintenance. Been finding and fixing broken links, redirecting links to old files and trying to recover as much of the lost data as possible. What a nasty crash that was but the site is definitely a lot more stable now than it was before.
I've also started looking at the search engine data again. Without actually pulling out a calculator I'm just going to use general numbers but, our peak years so far were 2005 and 2006, where we averaged about 10,000 "unique" visitors a month. In 2004 we were only averaging a few hundred, and somehow we managed to push that to about 10,000 a month and that's pretty crazy I think. I'm going to guess that it has a lot to do with all the movies we uploaded plus everyone sharing the links to the movies on more popular sites and message boards. Then from 2007~2009 it's been at a stable 2000~3000 a month. Not bad considering we hardly ever updated during that period. I'm guessing a large portion of that might be spam bots though..or maybe even all of it..haha.
What baffles me is that even after the site crashed and when I scrambled to re-upload all the data, the following month the page visitor count jumped back up to over 2000. The month of the crash, June 2009, the page views registered at only 400. So that's why I'm guessing it's just spam bots, plus a bunch of these other sites linking to our songs.
One of the top search terms this month is "ride that dog". If you look it up on google in quotes, you'll see the RIA site on page 1 (as of the time of this posting). Good stuff.
Most of the stuff for the main site is done now, but I'm still working on the About section and the Links section. Managed to get the Eye of Mordica data back, so I'm working on cleaning up that section too. As well as just continuing to recover lost data and also setting up the new message board.

Lately I've been using whatever time I can spare in between my job search and studying to continue with the updates for this site. NARC is finally up. After I'm not sure how many years since its release. Sorry about that BurpingCat! It seems like it was muted on YouTube, so the full version can be streamed off this site now and downloaded, woo!
Other than that, been working on a lot of other parts of the site, nothing major yet, but if you look around the site you should see some changes here and there.
Until next time, going to continue tackling the stuff I've been wanting to do for a long time, while I still have a bit of freedom on my hands.
